Man is Lord of Earth - Genesis 2:17-20

Lectures updated through Sunday, December 11, 2011. Genesis 2:17-20 speaks of the need for a helper "meet" for the man, that is, fit for him in connection with the command regarding the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam is given complete freedom to choose his mate, because he is Lord of earth; but Eve will ultimately fail in this regard, as we know. Yet the Blessed Virgin will be given grace to complete the woman's role as spiritual helper, for she will bear the Redeemer of the world. Lectures all available here.

Speeches and Presentations Over the years he has had numerous speaking engagements in the US and overseas.

Miscellany His areas of special scholarly interest include, besides medieval and Reformation history, Biblical exegesis, patristics, liturgics, and music. He has devoted particular attention to "the language of faith," a discipline concentrating on the study of medieval and patristic sources to consider their way of attending to the Sacred Scriptures in the framing of their own confessions of faith. He also served on the Commission on Adjudication for the South Wisconsin District of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. He has also written several hymns, and a Christmas cantata "Shepherd of Israel" for mixed chorus, organ, and string ensemble, whose debut performance was in Kewanee in January 2000.

Fr. Eckardt was born on July 14, 1955, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, one of four children born to a physician. He and his wife Carol have six sons, three daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren.
